Directions

To the Pell Bridge Newport and R.I.T.B.A. Administrative Office*

From New York City and southern Conn.

• Take Intersate 95 north through Connecticut and into Rhode Island.
• Leave I-95 at exit 3, R.I. route 138 eastbound.
• Follow route 138 east for 12 miles to the traffic light at U.S. route 1.
• Turn left onto U.S. 1 northbound; follow U.S. 1 for 3 miles to the exit for R.I. route 138 eastbound.
• Follow route 138 east for 9 miles (across the Jamestown-Verrazano Bridge) to the Pell Bridge.
• To reach the R.I.T.B.A. administration building: take the exit marked "Jamestown" just before the toll plaza. This is the second exit after the Jamestown-Verrazano Bridge (i.e. the second exit on Conanicut Island).
• Take the first left on the exit ramp, East Shore Rd., and the entrance to the R.I.T.B.A is the first driveway on the left.

From the Boston area via Mass. route 24

• Follow Mass. route 24 southbound to Fall River, where this highway merges with Interstate 195.
• Follow routes I-195 and Mass. 24 westbound for one exit to exit 8A, where the two highways separate.
• Take exit 8A and follow route 24 southbound (towards Tiverton and Newport R.I.).
• Route 24 ends where it merges with R.I. route 114/West Main Rd. in Portsmouth, R.I.
• Follow route 114 south into Middletown, and turn right at the traffic light onto Coddington Highway.
• Follow Coddington Hwy., which becomes J.T. Connell Hwy. in Newport.
• Upon reaching and entering the rotary, take the third right onto Admiral Kalbfus Blvd.
• Take the first right onto the ramp that leads to R.I. route 138 and the Pell Bridge.
• To reach the R.I.T.B.A. administration building: After crossing the bridge, take the exit marked "Jamestown" immediately after passing through the toll plaza.
• Turn right at the end of the exit ramp onto East Shore Rd.
• The entrance to the R.I.T.B.A. office is the first driveway on the right.

From Boston, Providence, and T.F. Green Airport (Warwick) via Interstate 95

• From I-95 southbound, take exit 9, R.I. route 4, which is a left lane exit.
• Follow route 4 south for 10 miles where it ends as it merges with U.S. route 1 southbound.
• Follow route 1 for a short distance to the exit for R.I. route 138 eastbound towards Jamestown and Newport.
• Take the route 138 exit and follow this highway for 9 miles (across the Jamestown-Verrazano Bridge) to the Pell Bridge.
• To reach the R.I.T.B.A. administration building: take the exit marked "Jamestown" just before the toll plaza. This is the second exit after the Jamestown-Verrazano Bridge (i.e. the second exit on Conanicut Island).
• Take the first left on the exit ramp, East Shore Rd., and the entrance to the R.I.T.B.A is the first driveway on the left.

To the Mt. Hope Bridge

From Boston

• Follow Mass. route 24 southbound to Fall River, where this highway merges with Interstate 195.
• Follow routes I-195 and Mass. 24 westbound for one exit to exit 8A, where the two highways separate.
• Take exit 8A and follow route 24 southbound (towards Tiverton and Newport R.I.).
• Take exit 2 towards Bristol and the Mt. Hope Bridge.
• Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Boyds Lane.
• The Mt. Hope Bridge will be in front of you at the first traffic light, at R.I. route 114.

From New York City and southern Conn.

• Follow directions at the top of this page to the Pell Bridge.
• Cross the Pell Bridge and take the second exit in Newport, Admiral Kalbfus Blvd.
• Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Adm. Kalbfus Blvd., and follow this road up the hill to the traffic light at R.I. route 114/West Main Rd.
• Turn left onto route 114/West Main Rd. northbound.
• Follow route 114 north through Middletown and Portsmouth to where it crosses the Mt. Hope Bridge to Bristol.

From Providence

• Follow Interstate route 195 eastbound into Massachusetts.
• Leave I-195 at exit 2 (in Mass.), which is Mass. route 136.
• Turn right at the end of the ramp onto route 136 heading southbound.
• Follow route 136 south into Warren, R.I., where it becomes R.I. route 136.
• Follow route 136 through Warren and into Bristol, where (as Metacom Ave.) it ends as it merges with R.I. route 114 southbound.
• The Mt. Hope bridge is a short distance ahead on route 114.
