RI Turnpike and Bridge Authority

The RITBA is currently recruiting up to three (3) for Part-Time, Per Diem Construction Inspectors. These positions will work for 20 hours or less per week at a pay scale of $25.00 per hour. These positions will work under the direction of the RITBA Director of Engineering, in providing inspection on the various construction projects on the Newport/Pell & Mount Hope Bridges.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide construction inspection of all components of bridge and highway projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A working knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices as applied in location, design and construction of bridges and roads; the ability to perform all the computations applied to standard engineering operations; to read and interpret the assigned types of civil engineering plans, maps and specifications; to utilize computer technology for engineering applications; to work in all areas of the bridges including climbing main cables, catwalk, anchorages, towers etc. and work within confined spaces such as containments for painting. OSHA safety certification is desirable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a college of recognized standing in civil engineering or graduation from a community college with a certificate of completion of a curriculum in civil engineering technology, or completion of a technical institute curriculum accredited by the Engineer’s Council for Professional Development; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: At least five (5) years of employment in a responsible capacity at the level of an engineer or engineering technician. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
