Sakonnet River Bridge Lighting

Sakonnet River Bridge Decorative Lighting

————————————————

Since obtaining the Sakonnet River Bridge in 2013, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) has utilized the decorative lighting installed on the bridge during its construction to recognize and celebrate holidays and numerous statewide and community events. RITBA welcomes requests from civic groups and organizations to light the bridge to commemorate special events not currently on the Annual Lighting Event Calendar. Guidelines for making a request are outlined below.

Criteria

Applications requesting lighting of the Sakonnet River Bridge must be from organizations which are not-for-profit and community-focused and which promote the State of Rhode Island, its civic institutions, and other public events of community significance. RITBA may accept requests for special lighting to recognize a specific cause or to commemorate or enhance a specific event consistent with this purpose. Specifically excluded would be lighting to celebrate political agendas, birthdays, weddings, personal anniversaries, or events that are primarily private in nature.

Application Process

Requests must include contact information for the organization, a description of the event, date of the event, and color of lighting requested: Click Here for a list of available lighting configurations. Requests should be submitted 3 weeks before the date on which the bridge would be lit. Requests for combinations of colors not on the current list of lighting configurations may require a fee for reprogramming and would require a 6 week notice. The RITBA Executive Director may waive this requirement in instances where 21 days notice is not practical such as school sports championships.

Please submit your request using the contact form below

Priority in choosing colors for the Sakonnet River Bridge decorative lights will be given to events that celebrate the State, its civic institutions, State-recognized holidays, public events and festivals. Requests to change the color of the bridge’s decorative lights will be accommodated as dates are available. The Authority retains the right to refuse requests. If multiple requests are made for different colors on the same dates, preference will be given to the requests in order of receipt.
Groups and/or individuals submitting Sakonnet River Bridge lighting requests will be notified within 7-10 days of the receipt of their application about the status of their requests.

Requests can also be submitted to RITBA by regular mail using the application form which can be obtained here: SRB Lighting Application.  Please mail the form to:

Approval Process

Each request will be reviewed by RITBA’s Executive Director with input from the RITBA Engineering and IT Departments. The Executive Director’s decision is final.  Groups and/or individuals submitting Sakonnet River Bridge lighting requests will be notified about the status of their requests 7-10 days after receipt of their application.

Annual Bridge Lighting Plan

The Sakonnet River Bridge Annual Lighting Event Calendar lists normally scheduled events that do not require an external request. The bridge’s default color will be blue.
