In remembrance of the nearly 3,000 people who died on September 11, 2001, The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority will commemorate the lives lost and give thanks to the brave first responders and committed members of the United States military with patriotic symbols across its bridges.
Weather permitting, RITBA will fly the American flag on the Mount Hope Bridge on the morning of Friday, September 11, 2020. That same evening, The Sakonnet River Bridge will illuminate in red, white, and blue.
Unlike in years past, The Authority is unable to fly the flag on the Newport Pell Bridge due to a tear in the flag. The tear was discovered while preparing it to be flown. The flag is being appropriately repaired so it can be flown for upcoming holidays.
